Crossroads & Liminal Spaces

Have you ever felt the spiritual world calling you from specific places, often entryways? These liminal spaces hold a certain magic, as if the veil between worlds is thin… and if you are lucky, you might just slip into some new and unexpected adventure.

Standing at a literal crossroad, where you can feel a twinge of fate dance up your skin.

Maybe an enchanting trail in the woods (or desert) that calls you toward adventure.

Or a doorway that beckons with a weighty presence, begging you to answer the mystery of what lies beyond.

Best of all, perhaps, a beguiling garden gate, whispering promises of precocious birds and whimsical, talking flowers?

Sometimes, when the weather is a little gloomy, and the wind is blowing in just the right way, I imagine I can slip between the cracks and disappear.

While that has not happened to me (yet), I do believe in places where the veil is thin, and we can at least touch the magic briefly. Sometimes, it is a physical place where power has accumulated for many years, and sometimes it’s a certain time of the year.

I feel like the fall and winter months are primed for these liminal space experiences. Many cultures celebrate the time between late October and early November as one of those thin times. Mexican Dia de los Muertos, Celtic Samhain and Hop-tu-Naa, Finnish Kekri, and Slavic Dziady. I am sure there are more, and at different times of the year, but these are the ones I am familiar with.

All of these celebrations are focused on honoring ancestors and being able to commune with them. Because one of my goals this year is to increase my intuition and psychic abilities, I am hoping to maximize on the special times and places where the I can feel the magic flowing, the veil thinning, and the spirits who are ready to commune.

This used to be something I feared, but not anymore. I think I had an ability as a young child that was exploited and frightened me, and so I shut it down. At this stage in my life, I am ready to open my third eye and explore the liminal spaces that present themselves to me.

Do you feel a connection to these kinds of places? Can you feel the thin places at certain times of the year? I am excited to see what this year brings, and of course, the years to come. I want my eyes, my heart, and my soul open to the possibilities.
